ЁЯМН Explore Global Impact: Aga Khan Foundation Canada International Youth Fellowship 2026-2027

Why This Fellowship Matters
The International Youth Fellowship (IYF) from Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC) is a powerful platform for young professionals and recent graduates to not just travel abroad — but to make a real difference in global development. Selected fellows get to work in Africa or Asia and contribute to meaningful community-level change through hands-on development projects.
For anyone with a global outlook, interest in development, or passion for social impact — this is more than just a CV booster; it's a chance to grow as a leader, learn cross-cultural collaboration, and build a career with purpose.
ЁЯОп What You Get: Program Details & Benefits
-
Two Streams & Flexible Roles: Through the IYF, fellows can apply under one of two streams — International Development Management (IDM) or International Microfinance & Microenterprise (IMM). Depending on background and interest, placements can be in areas like health, education, climate-resilience, food security, civil society, enterprise development, and more. Roles could involve project management, operations, M&E, communications, partnerships, research, etc.
-
Comprehensive Support: AKFC covers most of the costs — travel, accommodation, vaccinations, health insurance, and even a modest living stipend. The only cost to the selected fellow is a one-time contribution of CAD $1,000.
-
Pre-Departure Training: Even before heading to the field, fellows go through a 3-week intensive training bootcamp (in Ottawa) — covering project design, monitoring & evaluation, gender/climate-sensitive development, communications, and other skills important for real-world development work. This training helps build both hard and soft skills — preparing fellows for challenges ahead.
-
Global Exposure & Network: Working abroad with local institutions under the umbrella of the broader Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) opens doors to international networks, cross-cultural experience, and long-term career paths in non-profits, NGOs, development agencies, or even global institutions.

ЁЯТб What This Means for You — Even If You’re Not Eligible
Since the program is open only to Canadian citizens/permanent residents, many of our readers/followers (in India or elsewhere) may not directly apply. Still — this opportunity is a useful “case-study” for designing and building your own global-career path.
At Webercraft, we recommend:
-
Using this as a benchmark: mirror similar fellowships or organisations that accept Indian or international applicants — especially those offering field-work in development, social impact, NGOs, or community service.
-
Building equivalent skills: e.g. project-management, community development, climate resilience, education, health — through internships, volunteering or local NGOs.
-
Thinking globally: Even local community work + global outlook + good communication skills can make you competitive for many international fellowships or programmes targeting global development.
ЁЯОп Our Advice (Webercraft Perspective)
-
If you happen to have Canadian permanent residency — don’t miss this chance. The Fellowship gives unmatched exposure, training, and global-field experience in a reputed development network.
-
For students or professionals in India: start building a strong social-impact or community-development profile now — internships, volunteering, grassroots projects, etc. These build credentials similar to what IYF seeks.
-
Keep an eye on other global fellowships or NGOs accepting applicants from India or globally — and treat this IYF as a “global standard” to aim for.
